What is Exam Anxiety?

It is alright to be nervous before an exam. We all are. Except for some individuals, the expertise may be torturesome. Lack of focus, quick pulse, headache, nausea, shallow respiratory are all classic exam anxiety symptoms. But do you agree that a bit of nervousness can help you to perform your best? However, when you cannot handle the distress & it starts interfering with your exam preparation, it is known as exam anxiety.
It is of no use discussing exam anxiety, its causes, and symptoms. What students need the most is a practical solution that shall help them overcome exam anxiety. So what exactly can you do to prevent or minimize exam anxiety?

1) Think Positive Thoughts

Science confirms what several folks already apprehend. If you think happy thoughts, you will move. Some ways to encourage positive feelings are meditation, yoga, and exercise. Visualize yourself passing the exam. Obviate negative instincts and stressors even if it means avoiding negative individuals, friends, or family members in your life, do it! Avoid interacting with them till exams. Hang around with positive individuals, friends, and family.

2) Forget About Past Failures

You might have been unsuccessful in Exams before. You may not have cleared your exam on the first attempt. But forget about all that and target the task at hand. Just try and be within the moment. Nothing else matters. It is a replacement paper. A new exam. A new day. Failures make you stronger, do not let failure get to your heart. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

3) Plan your studies

Prepare a timetable that allows short and planned breaks. The Pomodoro Technique is an effective time management method used for any task. 4) Do not Try to Be Perfect

Do not expect to be perfect. We all make mistakes & that’s okay. Knowing that you have done your best and worked hard is all that matters, not perfection.

5) Get to the Exam Site Early

Do not leave your house at the second and rush. Try to reach the examination hall a minimum of forty-five minutes before schedule. If the exam site is far from your residence, it would be a decent plan for you to travel to the examination location some of the days previous.

 6) Get enough sleep

A night of good sleep will help your concentration and memory and also help you stay alert and calm during the exam.

7) Take deep breaths.

If you start to feel anxious while taking your test, deep breathing may help in reducing anxiety. Breathe deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth. And remember, “Just because you failed once does not mean that you are going to fail at everything.”
